  • BDS is one of the most popular and designated degree of dentists (doctors).
  • The BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the only educational and professional programme of dental surgery in India.
  • The BDS degree is provided post successfully completion of the four-year academic education and the one-year mandatory internship programme in dentistry education leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree programme.
  • It is equivalent to the MBBS. The second choice of the students after the MBBS course, in the medical educational field, is BDS.
  • The students are taught about the denture, dental problems and surgery.  There are various job opportunities are available in the hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries post completion of this course.

Eligibility or admission criteria & Duration for BDS

The students, who have passed the 10+2 examination with science stream and have had Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English in 12th stream, may go for the BDS course.

The students have to score minimum 50% marks (40% in the case of reserved category) in plus two and have to appear for an entrance examination conducted by the respective authorities.
A candidate must clear NEET exam in order to be

  • Eligible for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses for a particular academic year in case of General, General-EWS, it shall be necessary for a candidate to obtain minimum of marks at 50th percentile in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) to Undergraduate Medical Courses held for the said academic year.

 

  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, the minimum marks shall be at 40th percentile. In respect of candidates with Benchmark Disabilities specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for Unreserved Category & GEN-EWS Category candidates and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates.
  • The percentile shall be determined on the basis of highest marks secured in the All India common merit list in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses.

There are ample opportunities for students who successfully complete 5 years of BDS programme. Many of the good medical colleges offer placement opportunities for students in private and government hospitals after the completion of graduation. There are better job opportunities after completion of MDS.

 

Who earns more BDS or BAMS?

I would suggest you for BDS as it has more scope as compared to BAMS. After dentistry you can get a salary of 15000 - 25000 initially and after some expirience you can get handsome salary of 4 - 6 lakhs. It has 100% job placement comparing to BAMS
